The practice of listening.

A bio in four short chapters — how a young bassist from East Tennessee became a producer, engineer, and teacher.

I

Roots

A young musician's first ear.

Beginning as a young musician, I discovered a deep connection to sound. The bass came first — five then six years of it — leading through Chattanooga Youth Symphony, advanced strings, all-east selections, and a stint anchoring a jazz band's low end. The instrument taught me what the studio would later confirm: most of the song lives in what you can't quite hear.

Violin and guitar followed, but bass stayed primary. The years of ensemble work — of locking into a section, watching a conductor, listening for the room — became the foundation for everything that came after.

II

Studio

From player to producer.

From bassist to producer was a shorter walk than I expected. Through experiences at Dynamo Studios and the Songbirds Foundation, I started engineering sessions, then producing them, then mixing and mastering the results. My work has spanned hip-hop, R&B, country, and acoustic — each project a chance to listen harder.

The toolkit grew with the work: Pro Tools and Logic for tracking, Ableton and FL Studio for production, an iZotope and FabFilter chain for the finish. The principle, though, hasn't changed since the bass: serve the song, then sharpen it.

IV

Service

Pay it forward.

Through Dynamo Studios and the Songbirds Foundation, I've contributed more than 1,700 volunteer hours producing and engineering sessions, mentoring young artists, and developing state-approved curriculum for audio production programs across Tennessee. The teaching is not adjacent to the practice — it is the practice.

Curriculum design, masterclasses, summer camps: each is an excuse to articulate what the studio teaches in shorthand. Saying it out loud sharpens what you do silently.
